Fin research going new paths

February 9th, 2013

I managed to source a tiny camera and mounted it with an aluminium profile at the back of the board about 5cm below the bottom. Here are some first stills of the 1.5 hour of video footage. Conditions were light wind float n ride at Puerto Lajas and a 2m wave. I tried to get the first wave of the sets to avoid too much foam in the water. Since it was the first time and cloudy I was not sure how well things were visible but it was surprisingly good and allready saw loads of interesting things, especially from the moving video. Next time will run it simultaneously with a shadowbox to record speeds and a Go Pro in the mast and start trying different fins and add tell tales on the bottom too. This is probably stuff no one has ever seen before. more images
